Woodchuck and groundhog are common terms for the same animal
If your property has a lot of debris and thick plant life, it will attract
snakes. Especially attractive are things snakes can hide under, such as plywood
boards, gaps under concrete, etc. Eliminate the clutter, trim back the weeds,
and fill in any gaps that snakes would like to use for shelter! Also, lower the
food source through methods such as rat control.
If the "clean-up" method of getting rid of snakes doesn't work -
try a repellent.
Snake-A-Way and other snake repellents are detected by the snake’s
Jacobson’s Organ (auxiliary olfactory sense organ) and disrupts its sensory
reception. This disorientation causes the snake to slither away unharmed, in
search of fresh air. The Jacobson's organ in snakes is used with the tongue to
sense its environment. The snake flicks out its tongue and picks up the scent of
vapor molecules (Napththalene). When the snake pulls in its tongue, the vapor
molecules are transferred to the odor-sensitive Jacobson's organ.
