Wasps: Wasps are long, thin, and black. They are known to have the most painful sting. Wasp nests are very small and can basically be built in any nook or cranny. This can often make it difficult to find the source of the wasps. However, wasps do really like attics, so that is one place you should check for them. A great product to repel wasps away from your home is the Waspinator Chemical-Free Wasp Repellent. Wasps are very competitive, and they will not occupy a pace where other wasps already are. The Waspinator Chemical-Free Wasp Repellent looks like a wasp nest, and when wasps see it they will automatically leave your yard alone. This is a great way to remove wasps from your yard without using any chemicals.

Yellow Jackets: These pests like sugary treats. They frequent picnic areas, especially when sugary sodas or ice cream is around. Their back has yellow and black stripes, hence the name “yellow jacket.” The look of their nest likens to a tear drop or a football. If the nest is out in the open, it is quite easy to identify. Identifying becomes difficult when the nest is hidden. Luckily, yellow jackets themselves are quite easy to identify. If yellow jackets are your problem get the Yellow Jacket Trap with Bait (Case of 12), pictured to the right. Yellow jackets are drawn to the Yellow Jacket Trap with Bait (Case of 12), and once they enter they become trapped and die.

Hornets: If a hornet wants to sting you, he will. Hornets have a strong sting that can penetrate layers of clothing. However, a hornet sting is not any more toxic than a bee sting. Hornets almost exclusively build their nests outside in trees, shrubs, or underneath your patio. Similarly to yellow jackets, a hornet’s nest will look like a tear drop or football. A good line of defense against hornets is using a spray like the Shoo-Fly Hornet Bomb 12 oz. It can shoot a distance of 25 feet, so you can cover a large radius with the Shoo-Fly Hornet Bomb 12 oz. It can also be used on wasps, yellow jackets, as well as spiders, cockroaches, and ants.

What kills the insects

Once inside the trap, the yellowjackets cannot fly out and die of dehydration.

Where it’s used

The RESCUE!® Reusable Yellowjacket Trap can be used outdoors wherever there is a yellowjacket problem. We recommend the trap be placed at least 20 feet away from an outdoor activity area, such as a patio or deck. The trap should be hung, if possible, in a natural setting of bushes and trees. It’s also effective to place the trap on the perimeter of a yard or area where yellowjackets are entering. The trap should also be placed at least 20 feet away from a known yellowjacket nest.

When it’s used

The RESCUE!® Yellowjacket Trap can be used in spring when the queen yellowjackets emerge from overwintering to look for nest sites. It can also be used in the summer and fall when the worker yellowjackets forage for food.

If you plan on having a graduation party, birthday party or a wedding outdoors this summer, don’t forget to provide your guests protection from yellow jacket attacks. Your guests will be very grateful if they don’t have to fight or run from yellow jackets at your party. Yellow jackets can be terribly annoying and frightful when they are attracted to the food or guests at your party. They can attack repeatedly and their sting is very painful.

If you can’t or don’t want to bring the party inside, it is a good idea to be proactive with yellow jacket prevention. In order to keep yellow jackets away from your guests and food, it is a great idea to set up yellow jacket traps to keep them at bay. Place these traps all around your yard to help attract and kill them. It is a good idea to place the traps in areas that are not too close to people and food in a tree or on a post.

One highly effective and convenient-to-use trap is the Rescue Yellow Jacket Trap. This trap already contains bait for attracting yellow jackets, so there is no mess. The attractant lasts for weeks and the trap are easy to set up in your yard. Just hang the ready-to-use traps up around your yard to control all types of yellow jackets. Yellow jackets will get trapped in the bag and die.

Another yellow jacket trap that you may want to consider is the Deluxe Yellow Jacket Trap. This trap should be hung up at least six feet above the ground in an area away from people and food. A special feature of this refillable trap is that it does not use any pesticide to trap yellow jackets. Just place food or a sweet liquid inside the trap for an attractant and yellow jackets will be attracted to the bait and get trapped inside. Use this trap year after year for great protection against yellow jackets.

Having fun outdoors should not involve the fear of getting stung by a yellow jacket. Taking proactive measures and using a trap can be very effective for preventing scary attacks and painful stings. Check out these products and more at Backyard Style.
