Worried about the safety of an outdoor fire pit?  Don’t be!  While you do need to exercise some safety when you are around a fire pit, especially when children are involved, fire pits are created to be safe.  They always come with a protective screen that contains the flames.  Also be sure that you keep the fire pit at least 10 feet away from your horse.  And keep it at least three feet away from any outdoor furniture.  This does not include any benches that are made of the same material as the fire pit, because obviously they are flame resistant.

Fire pits can be made of a variety of materials, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes.  With all of the options for outdoor fire pits, it is easy to find one that matches your tastes.  When you order a fire put, it will come disassembled, but all of the ones I have listed are easily assembled!  Here are some great outdoor fire pits:

One of the best ways to end an evening get together with your friends and family is to gather around an outdoor fire pit on your patio. To help you get the most of your evening, here are some tips so you can be prepared to gather around the fire.
Choose wood that will burn correctly in your fire pit. Hard wood, such as oak or maple, is the best choice because it burns more slowly and evenly than other woods. Correct burning results in a warmer fire for you and your guests. Soft wood, such as pine, could be used as kindling since it burns very quickly.Start your fire by getting the kindling and placing it in the center of the fire pit. Kindling usually consists of paper or small pieces of wood that quickly start on fire.
Surround the kindling with larger pieces of hard wood without smothering the fire, a teepee shape usually works best.
Surprise your guests by bringing out hot dogs to roast on the fire, a campfire tradition they will love. Make sure you remember to grab some sticks that will be long enough for your guests to stick in the fire without burning their hands or faces. Sticks can be picked up from your yard and dwindled to a point or purchased in a local store.
Your guests will think nothing can top their night until you bring out marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate to make s’mores. Wait for the fire to die down so the marshmallows will not catch on fire. Very, very few events are as mystifying and enjoyable to me as an evening around a fire with friends, family and food. All the better, if it is a chilly fall evening and I have to get closer and closer to the fire as the surrounding air get’s cooler and cooler.

We recently picked up a fire pit by Cobraco. I shopped around quite a bit and read reviews on all of the fire pits before I chose this one. I felt that it was necessary to have a cover or mesh lid and this particular fire pit came with matching benches.

Albeit not enough seating area for the type of outdoor entertaining that I like to do, it was a really good deal to get the benches with the pit.

The range of fire pits that are available these days have increased by leaps and bounds. If you can afford a outdoor fireplace, than there are benefits to purchasing one over creating them. The mesh covering that fits precisely is one of those reasons. Don’t fret if it’s not in the budget this year, though! You can always make a fire pit.

A benefit that I didn’t think about before I bought our fire pit is that they can be taken practically anywhere that you could have a bongife. Carry them to the Church picnic or outing (if allowed)!!

The way that firepits are made today allows them to double up as a cooking device too.
