Is your green thumb not so green? Would you like to grow bigger and better vegetables in your garden? In order to grow bigger, better and tastier vegetables in your garden, you have to start with the quality of the soil. Soil quality is critical because it provides the nutrients that your plants need for optimum growth.

The first step in creating a nutrient-rich soil is to check the pH of your soil. Do this before adding various nutrients found in fertilizers because it is important to make sure that you are adding only the nutrients that your soil is lacking. If you don’t add the right nutrients, then you may end up hurting the quality of your soil and this will affect the quality of your vegetables.

For testing soil quality, it is a good idea to purchase an electronic soil tester and test the soil before fertilization. The electronic soil tester by Ferry Morse is easy to use and may be used year after year on your lawn or garden soil. This tester runs on one AA battery and instantly tells you the pH of your soil, so that you can determine what nutrients are required to improve the quality of your soil.

Once your soil has been tested and you know your soil’s pH level, the next step is to determine the type of fertilizer that you will need to improve your soil. A great fertilizer for a vegetable garden is the Organic Fish and Seaweed Blend Fertilizer by Neptune’s Harvest. This fertilizer may be used in addition to other types of fertilizers and helps improve the quality, taste and size of vegetables. Best of all, this fertilizer is organic and great for organic vegetable lovers.
